Community Fire

"The purpose of the Sacred Fire Community is to foster a global community that rekindles our relationship to each other and the world through the universal and sacred spirit of FIRE."

Fire

A long time ago, when all the peoples of the world still maintained their traditions, Fire and heart were the guiding principle of peoples lives.  It was recognised that Fire was the energy of the heart and its qualities of community, joy, laughter, connection, passion and transformation.  In the modern world our lives have changed and continue to change at an exponential rate.  The more progress we make the more hectic our lives become, the more technolgical advances we make the more distant we become from each other and nature.  A diminishing connection to the energy of Fire has been just one of the many consequences of modern life.  In the process there has been great disconnection and the colder our lives have become.

Community

In most, if not all traditional socities, people lived in community.  Over a long period of time our people (in this country and others) have either left, or been forced to leave, their homelands and migrated to far away lands.  As a result it has become 'normal' for us to congregate in massive, ever expanding urban cities.  We live surround by millons of people yet it seems we have lost the true meaning of community in our lives.

The Offerings

These community fires are special because we have been given permission to use ritual offerings to create a safe, sacred space for meeting together and sharing.  Offerings (tobacco, copal, chocolate and wood) are made to the fire in the manner of the Huichol people of the Mexican Sierras.  Making offerings is entierely optional and they will be provided at the fire.  Once these offerings have been made the fire is considered sacred or consecrated.  Sitting by consecrated fires opens us to deeper connection to the Fire, each other and the Divine.

Exchange

Exchange is an important aspect to our Fires and for community.  Please consider some of the ways in which you can make a meaningful contribution.

    - Arrive half-an-hour early to help set up - Jobs that need to be done before each fire include chopping firewood, sweeping the fire area, putting out paper plates/cups, setting up table and chairs etc.

-Stay a little later to help pack things up - Jobs that need to be done at the end of each fire include cleaning plates, cutlery, putting away tables/chairs etc.

    - Contribute some money to help cover incidental costs such as firewood, photocopying newsletters etc.
