"The human condition is to be part Light and part Dark. Both are necessary and unless I experience and accept both (parts) I am unbalanced.
I used to believe that God must be all loving, all forgiving, totally positive ie Light but there is something unbalanced in that view. In the same way that there is equal and opposite reacions for all actions: fire-water, love-hate, light-dark, so must there be the balance, even in God.
What we deem to be Light is not beter than what we deem to be dark. They are both equally necessary and powerful. Birth-death, beauty-ugly, happy-sad without one the other becomes meaningless and powerless. In order to appreciate one we must know and understand the other.
The thing that has warped our whole understanding is the moral judgement we place on them; Light=Good, Dark=Evil. This is so completely untrue and twisted. It is the excess of either that causes the imbalance that (in turn) causes the problem. Excess of either can be destructive, painful etc etc which can also be (seen as) either positive or negative. Both can be used to achieve a goal ie be constructive, blissful etc. So neither is inherintly good nor evil.
So where does the moral stuff come from? the judgement? the punishment?...
Is it not simply that those things that get us where/what we want are good? Too simplistic, there has to be an answer... Perhaps Nature which is free of judgement or morals has the answer?
Perhaps morality is the human condition? We seem to be the only species that sit in judgement and administer punishment to our own kind...
What about those who commit unspeakable evils? Where does that come from??? Are such things evidence of Good and Evil?? or are they simply the balances for unspeakable goodness? Are we unable to have the likes of the Dali Lama without having his antitheis??? " |
